Getting Started Follow these steps to install and use your first tool

You've installed Holon Hub — great start!

Hub is your launchpad. Every Holon tool included in your plan lives here. You're one step away from using them.

Pick a tool from My Tools

Click My Tools in the sidebar. You'll see every tool your plan includes. Find one you want to use and click Install.

Install it in Canvas (2 minutes)

Hub shows you the tool's Consumer Key, Shared Secret, and Config URL. In Canvas go to Course Settings → Apps → +App → By URL and paste those in. Each tool installs separately so it gets its own fast, independent Canvas connection.

Come back and click "I've installed it"

Return to Hub and confirm the install. Hub remembers it and shows Open in Canvas and New Window launch buttons from that point on.

Connect your Canvas API token on first launch

Each tool asks for a Canvas API token once. Go to Canvas → Account → Settings → New Access Token, copy it, paste it in. Done — the tool remembers it.

Common questions

Do I install Hub again for each course?

No. Install Hub once — either in a course via Course Settings, or at the account level if you're an admin. Account-level installs appear in every course automatically.

Do I need to install each tool separately?

Yes — each tool gets its own install so it has an independent Canvas connection. This keeps them fast and reliable. Hub makes it easy: click Install, copy three fields into Canvas, done. Takes under 2 minutes per tool.

What do students see when they open Hub?

Students only see tools you've enabled in the Student-Facing Tools toggle bar. They never see the instructor dashboard, tool settings, or instructor-only tools.

How do I get more tools?

Tools showing "Add to Plan" are not included in your current plan. Visit store.holontechnology.com to upgrade.

Why add multiple tokens?

Canvas limits each API token to 700 calls per 10 minutes. For a class of 30+ students all using tools at once, one token can run low. Hub rotates between your pool tokens automatically — so you never hit a limit.

Recommended: 1 token per 15 students in your largest class.

AI Enabled Tools

Holon tools that use AI (draft writing, summaries, suggestions, grading help) all draw from a single Anthropic API key stored here in the Hub. Your key is encrypted, never shown again after saving, and never shared with the individual tools — they request AI results through the Hub.

How it works

Enterprise OAuth2 lets Hub make Canvas API calls on behalf of your entire institution using a single admin-level credential — no individual tokens required. Once configured, all Holon tools use this automatically for all instructors.

To get your credentials: Canvas Admin → Developer Keys → + API Key → set scopes → copy Client ID and Secret
